(Lagenaria siceraria) Heirloom. Grows to 1m long before forming a 15cm 'bowl' on end. When mature can be dried, cut & carved to make a long-lasting ladle, bowl, dipper or instrument. Best trellised to create long straight-necked fruit, or leave to sprawl along ground for curved handle. Long neck may also be trained while growing to form different shapes. We recently grew the Long Handled Dipper Gourd for the first time. We only grew two plants & yet had a huge harvest (14 gourds). We left them to mature, and have now hollowed them out to make excellent, long handled serving spoons & bird nesting 'boxes'.
