(Crocus sativus) Perennial - sold as corms. Saffron comes from the dried stigma part of the flower and is a small bulb with plant reaching 30-50cm high, with violet to blue flowers during Autumn. Frost tolerant. Prefers well drained soil. The flower stigma (saffron) is harvested as soon as the crocus blooms, then dried in the sun & stored immediately. Each flower has three stigma. Saffron is one of the world's most expensive spice. One corm (bulb) produces one plant.
