(Beta vulgaris) Also known as ’Mangel’ & traditionally widely used across Europe as cattle feed as early as 1500‘s.  Includes Red Mammoth, Giant White & Yellow Eckendorf. Abundant, edible leaves with very large root up to 10kg or more.  Leaves used in salads or like spinach.  Root when harvested young used in salads or cooked.  May also been used as green manure.  When used as a fodder crop, beets can offer feed during winter when grasses are scarce.  When left to mature also attracts bees, butterflies & other beneficial insects to the garden.  High yields.

Best sown Spring to Autumn, or All Year in mild climates.

Broadcast at a rate of 4-5kg/ha or 1g/sqm

Smaller packets ideal for the home garden.
