***NOT TO TAS***  (Allium sativum)  Heirloom from the Republic of Georgia in the former USSR.  Large, flattened bulbs containing reddish pink cloves with a complex flavour being neither too hot nor too mild.    

GROWING AREAS:  NSW, Victoria, SA, Northern Tasmania and Southern WA. Does best in areas with hot dry summers and cold winters.  Prefers dry heat.

STORAGE:  Short to Medium - 4 to 5 months

- well suited to warmer areas with hot summers & mild winters
 
 
HARDNECK (Allium sativum var. ophioscorodon)
 
- hard & stiff neck (the stalk that grows up from a garlic) at maturity forming scapes which may also be used in cooking
- mild taste
- easy to peel
- best used soon after harvest (due to only a few protective papery layers)
- mainly large cloves around the outside of the bulb 
- thrive & grow better in cooler areas
