PALLA ROSSA

(Cichorium intybus)  Italian heirloom translated as 'Red Ball'.  Attractive, small, bright wine-red heads 8-10cm across with white veins.  Slightly bitter, tangy flavour.  Young leaves used in salads; mature leaves cooked.  One of the few red vegetables which retains its colour with heat.  Frost tolerant.  Slow to bolt.  65-85 days.  800 seeds
