(Wasabia japonica) Japanese heirloom also known as 'Japanese Horseradish'. The large, thickened root is best known for use as an accompaniment for sushi, sashimi, Japanese noodles like udon.  Thrives in a cool, partially shaded and sheltered spot - ideally in moist soil near a pond.  Can be challenging to grow needs to be kept moist at all times.  Harvest rhizomes after two years.

Climate & Location: Choose a spot with full, dappled shade where temperatures stay consistently between 7°C and 20°C. Avoid direct sunlight and protect the plant from harsh winds.  Note: If a wasabi plant gets sunlight it will wither and droop very quickly.  Because of the specific climate and moisture requirements, many home growers find it easiest to grow wasabi in containers. This allows you to easily move the plant indoors during temperature extremes.

Watering: Wasabi is a semi-aquatic plant. Water it frequently to keep the soil consistently moist, but ensure the water doesn't pool or become stagnant.
