(Symphytum officinale)  European heirloom.  Large, hairy, flattened leaves with mauve, bell-shaped flowers.  Plant to 1m high.  Dies back during winter in cooler areas.  Widely used in a permaculture system.  Ideal for liquid manure or used as a compost activator, mulch, soil conditioner and for attracting bees to the garden.
