SOYBEAN MEAL (1kg)

Soybean meal is a plant-based dry amendment primarily used as a slow-release nitrogen source to promote lush vegetative growth.  It typically has a fertilizer value of around 7-2-1 (7% Nitrogen, 2% Phosphorus, 1% Potassium) and doubles as a highly effective compost activator.

Key Gardening Applications

• Slow-Release Nitrogen Fertilizer: Because it is plant-based, soybean meal breaks down gradually in the soil, delivering a steady supply of nitrogen that feeds heavy feeders (like tomatoes, peppers, corn, and leafy greens) without the burning risk associated with animal-derived inputs like blood meal. 

• Compost Activator: The high protein and nitrogen content makes soybean meal an excellent supplement to jumpstart compost piles, providing the vital nutrients that beneficial bacteria and microbes need to break down organic matter efficiently. 

• Soil Health and Microbe Builder: As it decomposes, it introduces amino acids into the soil, which enriches the rhizosphere, encouraging beneficial microbes and earthworms. 

How to Use

• Application Rates: A standard application guideline is 1/4 to 1/2 cup per square meter of garden space. It is best incorporated into the top layer of soil or custom potting mixes. 

• Vegetables & Tomatoes: For plants like tomatoes, gardeners typically mix it directly into the soil at planting time, or apply it as a side-dressing around the base of the plant once the first fruit forms, lightly working it into the dirt without disturbing the shallow roots. 

• Timing: Incorporate it into your beds 2 to 4 weeks before planting. For fruiting vegetables, avoid over-applying high-nitrogen fertilizers early on to prevent the plant from prioritizing foliage over flowers and pollination.
